What is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme helps you replace your fossil fuel heating with efficient, low carbon heating systems. Grants are available for air and ground source heat pumps and biomass boilers.
- It is open to people in England and Wales
- In Scotland an interest-free loan or a home energy efficiency grant may be available instead
- In Northern Ireland, you may be able to get a grant to replace your boiler
How much can you get?
The value of the grants are:
FREE for Benefits Assisted or Clinically vulnerable customers
£7,500 off the cost and installation of an air source heat pump
£5,000 off the cost and installation of a biomass boiler
£6,000 off the cost and installation of a ground source heat pump
The grants help you with the upfront cost of installing the low carbon heating systems.
Types of FREE boilers available
Save on heating bills and boost your home’s efficiency with a free new gas boiler through the government’s ECO4 grant.
Stop paying for expensive repairs to inefficient boilers. Start saving money and heating your home without worrying about the bills.
Grants for a hybrid heat pump system (e.g., a combination of a gas boiler and an air source heat pump) are not available.
For properties not connected to mains gas, you can claim for high retention electric storage heaters or an Air Source Heat Pump combined with Solar Panels.
All systems installed must meet standards including minimum efficiency levels.
The system’s maximum capacity must be less than 45kWth – anything over is not eligible.
