What is the Great British Insulation scheme?
The Great British Insulation Scheme (also known as GBIS), provides energy efficient insulation upgrades either for free or at a reduced cost. This scheme has been designed to help those who don’t currently benefit from government support under the ECO scheme to upgrade their home. This is designed to help those in the least energy efficient homes and in the lower Council Tax bands, targeting the most vulnerable.

How will the Great British Insulation scheme benefit me?
This insulation scheme delivers single, low-cost insulation measures rather than multiple measures like ECO4. The Great British Insulation Scheme is targeted at homes with a low energy efficiency rating in lower Council Tax band areas and with EPC ratings of D or below.
The scheme will run until March 2026 and is estimated to save UK households around £300-£400 a year on their energy bills. Households can benefit from loft, cavity or solid wall insulation. The funding under this scheme may cover the full cost of the insulation, or a partial cost so you get cheaper insulation.

What insulation can I get with the Great British Insulation scheme?
The funding you’ll get will vary on house to house. You won’t be given money to buy the insulation yourself, it will be your energy supplier or installer who will apply for funding and manage the process for you. Depending on the assessment of your home and the amount of funding available, you may be asked to contribute to the cost of installing your insulation.
The scheme will predominately roll-out low-cost insulation measures including:
- Internal wall insulation
- External wall insulation
- Cavity wall insulation
- Loft insulation
