External Wall Insulation

What is External Wall Insulation?

External Wall Insulation (EWI) involves adding insulated materials to the exterior walls of a property, making it more energy-efficient. Adding these additional protective layers to the outside walls ensures the building’s high thermal performance. These layers ensure that no conditioned air is wasted, and you do not have to rely on your HVAC system anymore. This, in turn, saves energy and utility bills for years to come.

In this regard, you can use an external wall insulation grant and insulate exterior walls, decreasing heating and cooling expenses by 35%. Whether you own an old house or are constructing a new one, you need to make sure that your home is energy-efficient so that you are not paying hundreds of pounds of utility bills every month just to keep your home warm in cosy. While the initial cost of investing in wall insulation may seem a lot, it is about time to make a switch to external wall insulation and enjoy long-term benefits.

What are the Benefits of External Wall Insulation?

If you are wondering why you should invest in external wall insulation, there are more than a few benefits that would change your mind. From preventing moisture, dampness, and condensation to improving the structural integrity of the building, these benefits are the reason why most homeowners and property owners in the UK are making the switch. So, when you consider using your home insulation grants to insulate your house, keep these benefits in mind.

Energy Efficiency

Structural Protection

Noise Reduction

Improved Health

Improved Aesthetics

Regulatory Compliance

Types of External Wall Insulation

When it comes to choosing external wall insulation, there are several options available. Each option has its unique benefits and is suitable for different properties. Let’s explore your options:

  • EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) Insulation: Expanded polystyrene (EPS) is a lightweight and rigid foam insulation material used in different industries, including construction. Due to its excellent thermal properties, it is one of the most sought-after insulating materials for properties.
  • Mineral Wool Insulation: Made from natural materials and not glass, mineral wool insulation is a popular choice in the UK due to its superior soundproofing, fire resistance, and thermal properties.
  • Polyurethane (PUR/PIR): Rigid polyurethane (PUR) and polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation materials have high thermal efficiency and are lightweight, making them ideal for properties with limited space.
  • Phenolic Boards: Phenolic beads are excellent for insulating pipes, walls, floors, and tanks. They reduce water migration, minimise heat loss and heat gain, and provide excellent thermal insulating properties.
  • Silicone Render Systems: Silicon Render is an excellent external wall insulation material that improves thermal insulation and weather resistance. It is great for insulating both old properties and new construction.
  • Acrylic Render Systems: Acrylic render comes in a wide range of colours and finishes and offers excellent resistance to weather and moisture. It means it can withstand harsh weather conditions and maintain its insulating properties for a longer period.

How Do You Get Your External Wall Insulation Installed?

If you are thinking about investing in external wall insulation, you need a few thousand pounds to carry out this project, as it’s not inexpensive. If you don’t have the funding, there are two ways to obtain the funds, either privately funded or a government external wall insulation grant.

To obtain a government grant, you need to visit the Warmer Homes website to check if you are eligible. If you are eligible, you will get upfront capital grants of up to £7,500 in The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS). However, if you are not eligible, you’ll have to pay for this out of your own pocket. This is known as private funding.

Feel free to fill in our form below to get an expert within our team to contact you and run you through your options. We will assess your property, look for problematic areas, and suggest changes accordingly. We will also suggest the most suitable insulating material, finishes, and installation process. Lastly, we will ensure precision throughout the installation process to achieve a high level of thermal performance and aesthetic appeal.
